Priorities

Strong Public Schools

Sam and Sarah are raising their sons in Dubuque.  Like all parents, they want their kids to get a great education.  That starts with well-funded, well-supported public schools.

Iowa’s voucher program diverts taxpayer dollars away from public schools.  The program operates without government oversight and has done little to expand access to private education.  The government’s job is to make sure every classroom in Iowa has what it needs to help kids succeed. That means investing in our public schools so they’re once again the envy of the nation           .

Sam’s position: Public money should go to public schools.

Working for People, Not Corporations

Sam has spent his career representing ordinary people.  Too often it seems that we have a two-tiered legal system:  the poor and marginalized are bound by the law, but not protected by it, while the rich and powerful are protected by the law, but not bound by it.

Sam’s position: He stands with workers, supports the right to organize, and opposes legislation that puts corporate profits ahead of the health, safety, and economic security of Iowa families.

Fighting for Clean Water

Sam learned early in his career about the legal and regulatory frameworks intended to protect our water while working on Clean Water Act lawsuits.

We have a water quality problem, and it deserves more than talking points. Sam will work for real investment in clean water infrastructure, strong enforcement of environmental protections, and policies that hold polluters accountable.

Sam’s position: We deserve clean safe water.
